I need a new rear tyre
thinking of getting a 25c for a bit of extra comfort

is it ok to have a 23c on the front and a 25c on the back?
don't need to replace the front yet.

^^lol!
I can heartily recommend 25's over 23's if the roads are anything like round our way.
I've got an old wheel nailed to the wall outside which we use as a trellis; I checked to see what tyre was on it the other day and realised it was a 20mm! Gods I must've been tough back in the day!

Supersport motorcycles have quite different widths of tyres front and rear, John McGuinness seems to do ok on them going round the IOM TT and putting lap records in.....

Yes. I have just done that on my Cannondale using a 25c tyre which I had taken off my Basso because it didn't fit under that bike's Crud Roadracer mudguards. I think it rolls pretty well, is slightly more comfortable than the old 23c, and looks ok. I will put 25c front and back when the current tyres need replacing.
