I think I ought to change the tyres on my bike - and I'm after some advice from The Oracle that is CC.

My bike is a Ridgeback Cyclone hybrid (I know the use of that word will infuriate but I'm not sufficiently with it to know what word to use). My bike is used for a 30 mile round trip commute that I do twice a week - the other days I use the car.

I'm happy to spend up to 15-20 quid for some tyres. Any recommendations - and is worth getting the ones that have puncture proof bits on them?

I've just put some 23's Spesh all condtion armadillos on me Marin hybrid which seem to be OK. Having said that, it'll be the kiss of death and I'll get a poxy puncture at 5am tomorrow!

If I do I'll blame you!

On my commuter (a ridgeback Velocity) I'm using Continental Contacts, touch wood I've only had 1 p'ture in 4,800miles (that was a glass bottle sitting in the middle of the path I should've avoided :o). I've got conti's on my other bikes too (similar p'ture histories, 0 in 2000 on one and 1 snakebite in 2,250 on the other) and IME the conti's offer better grip than spesh for a similar p'ture record; I've no experience of other brands however.

I have Schwlabe Marathons. They have that Kevlar puncture protection stuff. I've had a double puncture on my ride (after 2,250 odd miles) and that was due to the biggest thorn I have ever seen. The only thing is they can be really tight to get off.
Here are the normal Schwlabe Marathon tyres;

Others over on commuting swear by the Pluses, but they're a tad higher that £20;

if you've only got £20 for the pair then something like these might do;

or
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=18837 which will set you back about £5 more.

everyone recomends different tyres and swears by them, depends on their riding style, routes and sheer luck or lack of it

you need to say what's important to you, speed, durability, performace in the wet, for starters

OK fair enough.

I would say the two most important things are puncture resistance and performance in the wet.
