Had a bit of a mare today. Had to change my inner tube due to a puncture and realised that my tyre is cut in various places.

Currently using continental ultra sport II's, and to be honest, I like them. The state of the tyre is due to recycling bin day and bottles being smashed everywhere. So not down to the 'cheap' and 'poor' puncture protection that some might say about the tyre.

Anyway, I like to try new things, so am open to some good summer tyres. I don't want gatorskins or marathon tyres. I'm looking more at Schwalbe 1's.

Cheers.

Love mine, not had one of those dreaded things in 2000 miles and still lots of life left

I just purchased Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres for commuting on my Road Bike after extensive research into puncture protection. The Continental GP 4000s II that Mike mentioned are also highly rated & recommended.

I got my new tyres delivered yesterday and can't fit them, so need to take them to my LBS to get them fitted - just a nightmare to fit.

Vittoria Rubino G+ Isotech - have put these on our bikes and they appear to be a good tyre and just £13.50 each from Merlin.

Thanks for everyone's help. I got a bit flappy as need some asap. So as the continentals were on offer, bought the same ones again for £21 next day delivery!

Will still keep my eyes peeled. Removing puncture protection shortfalls these tyres seem to have a very low rolling resistance. Doing LEJOG in May, so might be worth squaring some new tyres away then.

Warm them up, till they are very warm and they will fit easier, can I ask, if you get a puncture will you be able to fix it.

I advise people with lack of tyre changing skills to practise, 10 times on and off the last time with somebody throwing ice cold water over you should get you sorted.

Ah, you learned tyre changing with the Marines as well.

A bloke called Ken Ryall gave me that tip in about 1969, never had a problem fitting a tyre since.

If you were about in cycle sport in those days you would know the name, I was very lucky that he gave me lifts to a few races.

Hi All, I have tried many different tyres over the years, expensive ones and cheap ones too. However, the one thing that they all seem to have in common is that they seem to become soft and more vulnerable to being pierced at about the same time/age. I have had a sharp piece of glass split open my brand new expensive tyres within days of purchasing them, and had cheap tyres last for many thousands of miles. It's a lottery I suppose, but my own preferred option for the past 10yrs has been to buy cheap and change often. This option also allows me to try different brands, as I don't feel the need to keep them for long periods of time to justify the price. There is no science behind my theory, just personal choice. And no, I'm not just a tight arse

I switched from Marathon Plus tyres to Duranos. After 5000 miles and no punctures and probably life in them to do the same again. I changed to Duranos , for me the Pluses were too harsh.
