What do most of you go by ? "in the middle " of min /max or adjust to conditions ie wet slightly less cant help thinking that my harder than normal rear tyre (5psi below max) contributed to a recent fall (was pumping up with track pump before ride went a bit over and thought "what the hell" and just left it) Thoughts?

My Schwalbe Marathon Plus's on my commuter are rated at 100psi & I run them at 100psi. The Conti's on my road bike are rated at 125psi & I run those at 110psi...

I'm relatively new to road riding and until recently was pumping my tyres up to 110 and living with the harsh ride. Then I started pumping to 100 and I find the ride a lot more comfortable and forgiving and just as fast. No falls or punctures yet in over two years (except for a nail thrown on the road in a sportiff ride by young South African inner-tube hunters!)

Interesting topic for me as I reverted back to 23c from 28 and 32 as a result of cornering

I pump mine as hard as they can go 160 PSI not recomended I know but appears to save on punctures in fact the only time I seem to puncture is when they are deflated slightly

I find the bike much more stable with hard tyres not sure why but something Ive learned to live with

On the down side I guess the tyre will nopt last as long as in the case on mine the sidewalls tend to perish quicker than expected However a set of tyres will get me through the winter and another set through the summer

at the maximum or slightly above. The Marathon Plus tyres on the Brommie get 100psi, although the max is 85psi - it makes them virtually puncture proof and gives me a lighter ride.

On the road bikes I put in 110-120psi

Are you filling them with helium?

I run mine at 5-10psi above the max. I guess it's cos I assume that's what's in the pipe when I take off the track pump so that the actual tyre is on the max.
