Hi

I have 700 x 23 tyres and I need some new ones as they are a bit worn

Do they have to be 23 or can I got a bit larger on the number?

I mainly cycle to work and roads are a little bumpy at times

Any advice would be great thanks

Check for the ETRTO number on your wheel rim, should be 622x** from that number you can use the link below to find what size tyre you can fit on the rim.

For example, my rims are 622x19 so i can fit 700x23 to 700x44

Rather than just find out what the rims can take you will be more limited by the clearance at the bridge of the forks and likewise at the rear triangle. You don't say what bike you have but it sounds like you may be able to go to 28c which should make quite a difference to your ride comfort. You will have to think about mudguard clearance too, if fitted.

I should think you'd be OK with 28c tyres on the Vuelta but hopefully someone who has got one will see this and give you the definitive answer. I have an old Dawes racer and 28s just fit.
