Hi,

Quick question - what size tyres can one put on a road bike (orbea - don't know which - entry level) without causing problems (re clearance etc)

The person in question would prefer fatter tyres to her current 700 * 23c - I suggested 25 or maybe 28 but do road frames generally take these (or fatter) tyres.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Most road bikes will take a 25, but wider than this may not be possible.
Really, the only way to tell is give it a go.

My Giant TCR is a bit too tight for 25's, so you really want to check first. Also a lot of tyres, nay all tyre manufacturers use different measurement systems, so some will fit and some won't.

If it's anything like my Orbea Onyx the tyre clearance is very low!! 25s fit with mm to spare under the brakes, nothing bigger would fit.

mine won't take 25s. The 24 rear by Conti is a bit close. You may be restricted to 23s. And rightly so - anything fatter looks silly on a road bike.
