Hi all..

Just to introduce myself, I'm Harry, 29 and from the midlands..

I havent touched a bike since I was 17 (when I got my first car) and have been meaning to start riding for the last 4 years but it just hasn't happened.

A few months ago after a few too many drinks...I felt like a hero and agreed to take on the challenge to ride from London to Paris for charity. I guess the positive side to this is that it showed me how unfit I really am and pushed me to riding more more.

I have bought a specialised globe expert (Hybrid) since I want to use it after this Paris run, hence I didnt buy a racer.

I quite confused as to what tyres I should use for this trip, I currently have the 700 x 42c on a 700 32h double wall rim (factory standard)

Any advice would be useful, since I know this is going to be tough (300 miles) and anything to make it a touch easier would help big time....lol

Thanks in advance.

However if you would prefer no roadside changes than Schwalbe marathon plus are the tyres you want. A bit heavier, bit of a swine to fit but virtually bomb proof

I've got a Specialized Crossroads, which the Globe took over from about 3 years ago.

The narrowest you can really go on that bike are 700x28. I'd recommend that you do. It'll make the bike noticeably faster and easier, with no real loss in comfort.

I bought some Bontrager Race Light Hardcases a few weeks ago for £10 each. They've got good puncture protection and are cheap. http://www.allterraincycles.co.uk/product/9625.html

You can get lighter and faster tyres but they'll compromise on puncture protection. It depends how willing you are to do roadside changes.

Hi, I was just about to get these when I read they are a 23c and you said I shouldnt go below a 28c....will these still fit?

Sorry, I dont know much about tyres.

Thanks
Harry
