Well I broke two ducks yesterday. The first riding in really heavy rain and the second being getting a puncture. Luckily I was near a big motorway bridge I could hide under whilst I fixed the puncture which was nice. I managed pretty well considering I went against all the advice on here and didn’t bother practicing at home first, but I did do plenty of puncture repairs when I was a kid. The only schoolboy error I did make was putting the wheel back on and realising the chain was under the cassette so I had to take the wheel back off again. Was a bloody big nail I found!

Anyway two things I realised are I need some overshoes, my shoes are still soaking so I’ve had to drive into work today. I’ve read people talk about them on here and just never thought about getting any as a priority but after yesterday I realise I need some pretty quickly. To any newbies reading this, I couldn’t believe how wet my feet got really quickly. Also I need some lights, I’m not bothered about anything that allows me to see (I’ll worry about that in the winter) but a set of front and back lights that allow me to be seen that are lightweight and rechargeable. Has anyone any recommendations please?

Drying shoes: stuff them full of newspaper and stick them in the airing cupboard.

Overshoes: What sort of shoes are you using? In my experience overshoes are fine for light rain, and keeping out spray from the road, but in prolonged heavy rain it will get in down your legs via the top of the overshoes. Anyway, I've recently been using BBB Waterflex and Shimano Tarmac H20 with roads shoes - both are fine.

Smart Lunar 1 watt is a very good rear light for being seen in all conditions. Not rechargeable, but the batteries last a while.
I'll second the BBB overshoes, or perhaps the endura ones. Both seem to find favour on these pages. Bear in mind that most cycling shoes have vents on the underside that will take water in during very wet weather anyway. As Alien8 says, the overshoes in these conditions merely keep you warm rather than dry.
Re: a front light, ebay is your friend for finding something like a magicshine (or imported copy) which will do you for winter as well as being seen in the summer for no more than £40... which is what you'd spend on anything rechargeable that just lets you be seen from an LBS anyway.

Hmmm bad news on the shoe front then. I wasnt bothered about them being wet all that much yesterday whilst I was riding but at the same time I didnt want to put them on today whilst they were still wet. No-one wants to put on wet shoes! Still the overshoes cant hurt so I'll get some anyway.

In a way I was it was quite good to have the puncture in the pi55ing rain. If I can successfully sort one in those conditions I can sort one anywhere! Thanks for the help guys.
