Not sure if this has been asked before , but what is an hour on the turbo worth ? Some guestimates suggest up to 2 hours because you don't freewheel or stop at lights , wind resistance ect , though I think that is a tad generous . What do you guy's think ?

I think people should stop trying to compare turbo trainers to the real world and just get on with it

Yeah, if weather is too bad, I multiply what I was going to do by 2/3...so that would suggest my answer is 1.5 hours...but that's just me ^_^

I also like TMHNET's point too

You can take it easy on a turbo, or make it as hard as you like without having to worry about being killed by passing cars when you pass out!

When I used my turbo/gym bike a lot I was typically as knackered after an hour as I would be by 3+ hours riding on hilly roads. Some people just spin away against low resistance and read books or watch the TV so they aren't really doing much. I get very bored on a turbo after about 20 minutes unless I start working harder so I wouldn't really do an easy hour on one.

Using a turbo is not so enjoyable as riding a bike IMO but it is a good substitute during bad weather etc. but like all things in life the benefit you get out of it depends entirely on the effort you put into a session!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find the TSS(Training Stress Score) of a ride is a good "general" way to compare on road/on turbo efforts.

There should be an answer based on General Relativity.

Reiver, I take it you do not enjoy the turbo.

I often do not enjoy the bike on the road, but like when I use the turbo I do enjoy the feeling after.

If you do proper structured sessions, then it isn't boring. If you just climb aboard and ride, then it gets boring very quickly.

Used properly, a turbo is a fantastic training aid.

I could have done with a turbo today as it has been lashing down , I sat on my good bike just to give some info to someone on here and wanted to ride it . I like the natural hit I get from exercise but not getting cold and wet . I had already been out this morning on the winter bike to do my " jobs " and got cold and wet .
