I loves 'em, but then I am a screaming idiot. On a more serious note, they can be great for dealing with injuries and joint problems as the environment and effort can be controlled. Without my turbo, I would probably never have got back on the road. They are the work of the devil. If you can ride one of them through winter, you are a better man than me. Throw rain, snow and ice at me - I'd rather be out there.
it won't ever happen i'm afraidI often wonder what a turbo trainer thread would be like without the "work of the devil" "OMG I hate them/find soo boooooring" posts.

it offers way of training when or if you can't get out on the roads in the wet, windy winter. Can also offer some very constructive training sessions in the off season for TT trainingI've got a trainer. It's called "the road".
If it floats your boat then go for it, but aside from protecting an injury etc but I can't see what it offers that a bike ride can't. Indeed, the money could be used towards N+1.
I understand and agree that a turbo is not a replacement for a good ride BUT there are timres when a turbo trainer offers a better anternative to me. I really don't like riding in the rain or in at night by myself. An hour on the trainer and I feel that I have done something and I feel better for it.I've got a trainer. It's called "the road".
