My girlfriend wants to buy me a turbo trainer for my birthday. Initially we were going to get the Cycleops fluid 2 but it's a little out of our price range.

Can anyone suggest any others?

I've seen the Elite cronofluid elastogel one, is this any good?

I've heard good things about the elastogel. I have the fluid 2 and have no complaints. I wanted a low noise trainer that used the resistance of the gears rather than a unit you had to mount on the bars (ie you change resistance by going up through the gears).

I would say that it's better to pay a little bit more and get a sturdy, well spec'd model, that spend less and regret it later.

My advice would be to save a bit of extra cash and get the Fluid 2. I have a Cycleops Fluid 2 and an Elite Fluid Elastogel and the Cycleops is simply better. The Elite is a little quieter, but I'd rather have a turbo that's enjoyable to ride than one that's quieter.

well it's a birthday present you see, so can't really expect the missus to pay out more. I was reading some great comments about the Cycleops Mag trainer.
