Hi,

I am pretty new to cycling so I need some advice on the use of a turbo trainer.

I have just bought a turbo trainer and intend to use my giant rapid hybrid bike on the trainer.

The question is do I need to buy a special tyre for the rear wheel ? And also would it be ok to fit it on the current wheel or to buy another wheel for turbo trainer tyre so I can quick just change the wheel instead of the tyre.

Is there anything else I need to buy to use the turbo trainer ?

Thanks in advance and sorry for such a stupid question.

You can use any tyre but a specific one will last longer and be quieter, upto you whether u have a specific wheel which is easier - I would recommend a sweat towel for the top of the bike to save your frame more than anything else when using a trainer...oh and sufferfest videos to alleviate the boredom.

No special tyre needed, they are more for people that have a bike specifically for the turbo, & who do many hours.
Towel or rag to soak up your sweat, (you will be sweating, won't you, ^_^ ), & just start off at a casual cadence until you are happy (?!) with your setup.
Personally, I ride for 20mins per session, usually twice a day, but I am only trying to regain my fitness before hitting the roads again this year.
If you haven't already bought one, & can afford it, a Fluid Flywheel is better than magnetic. All the best.

I have a used mavic tire that I put on on Monday, leave it on Monday to Saturday for turbo sessions, swap over for my decent tires for rides at weekend then repeat.
If I was you I would carry on with your stock tires, when they get worn down and you need new ones, keep the used stock tires for the turbo, and swap out like me about to persevere the life of your new ones.
