I have 2 questions

1 - What turbo trainer do you have and would you recommend it

2 - I have tyres that are 700x35 - But I cant find a turbo trainer that will fit this, has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

Have you looked at Tacx, I think their trainer would fit but tbh I try to live without one, mine (a taxc speedmatic) is sitting in my parents garage back up in East Scotland.

Hi,
I have tried a few turbo trainers but I wasn't the happiest with any of them - the main reason being that you're supposed to use a turbo training tyre with them so unless you have a spare wheel lying around that you can switch out quickly, or are planning to set the bike up to use the turbo trainer throughout the winter - it could become a bit of a hassle for you. Also -if your tyres have offroad - type tread it could be quite noisy.

What I did in the end and works great for me, was to pick up a second hand spin bike. That way I didn't have to worry about changing my rear tyre or wheel and even if I only have 5 minutes free, I can just jump straight on and train.

Quite a good idea Upstream, my only problem with that is space. Shed is only big enough for ladders, kids bike and my bike. I would intend on not cycling outside during the winter months so would have it connected for 3 - 4 months

Hi.
I've just been through the same "excercise" (sorry)
I bought an Elite qubo, it's a perfectly good trainer. If you are going to use Trainer Road, you might want to pick up something more compatible such as the Kurt Kinetic.
Many people don't bother with a trainer tyre, just use an existing one that you need to ensure doesn't develop any cracks and embrace the fact you'll need a new tyre come Spring.
I do have a spin bike and have used it for the last couple of months, but you cannot recreate the geometry of your own bike.

I have used turbos over many years, never fitted a trainer tyre, and never had to replace the tyre in spring - it's all marketing guff

Hi Noodley

I suppose I can see what my tyre is like after the 4 months of usage. I did get the sense they like to add on these little marketing ploys when I noticed that the matts are 40 - 70 quid. Whats wrong with a good old fashioned beach towel?

Oh aye, and I've never had a mat or one of those stupid sling sweat things...and a bit of wood or a brick does fine instead of a riser block (but if you get a riser block with the trainer all well and good)

The simpler the better in my experience of turbos - no real need for anything fancy.

I can see a use for the sweat slings as you do sweat a lot and if there is no wind it will go on the bike but a mat. Come on

Towel on the top tube, and used to wipe sweat. A wet cloth over the paintwork after the session and your done.
Sweat catchers and mats indeed!
