I'm thinking to get a turbo trainer for this winter.
I've seen some from as little as just over £100 to £500. I have no idea whether the cheap trainers are a waste of money. Or perhaps the most expensive ones are for serious training, which isn't what I have in mind.
All I want to do is get under 5 hours per week but I need it to last.

Would £200 get me a decent turbo trainer?

Elite turbo trainers seem pretty decent and Helfrauds always have them on offer think last time i looked they were pumping out the £250 ones for £150

I bought the one mark st has linked to last week with an extra 10% off. Nicely put together bit of kit, and it comes with the sweat net, riser block and mat (which is a bit thin). Specifically chosen as I wanted a mag with the elastogel roller (less tyre wear). Whilst I have assembled it, I'm not allowed on it for at least another couple of weeks (using as a recover tool), so can't comment on performance or noise.

I just bought the Halfords one to replace my old metal one, still £139 on the website, £10 comes off automaticly. Resverved online and picked it up an hour later, plus cashback from quidco.

Easy to assemble and its pretty quiet, although I dont think Ill be using it in the front room again just due to the vibrations, as the neighbour will start complaining again, like she does everytime a a pin drops in our house. Its certainly quieter than my metal rollered one anyway!

Its a bit of a kerfuffle getting the bike on and off due to the spring loaded roller, but its not too bad. The riser and sweat catcher are a nice touch, the floor mat is a bit Meh, its like one of those foil backed windcsreen covers, but it protects the carpet I guess.

My only concern is the handle to tighten the trainer to the QR. Its plastic and looks like it could wear down in time, as its notched. We'll see how long it lasts.
