Have been looking into getting a turbo trainer for the winter. Im hoping to spend no more than £100 as on a tight budget...any suggestions?

Also reading up on them it seems people often buy a new wheel, training tyre and cassette rather than having to change the tyre each time. Is this really necessary and can you skimp of them as they are only for use on the turbo?

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Hi. I bought my trainer from amazon. Its a pedalpro and cost just shy of £100.00. They have others from around £51.00 upwards. I haven't got a spare wheel. Personally unless you use your brakes, I cant see the need for a different tyre. You will wear a very small amount from it, but I cant see it being enough to make much of a differance.

However, I haven't really used it yet because the weather hasn't been bad enough, although I think after this week it is the only thing I will be using. Others who have used trainers will be in a better position to advise you on possible wear and tear of your tyre, and I am sure someone will be along shortly to help you with that. Good luck and I hope you get the trainer you want.

Buy a second hand one and save yourself £££££'s

Loads of people buy them and simply don't take to stationary peddling, (me included), and so they sell them on.

Trouble is the market is usually saturated so there is almost always a bargain to had.

Look on ebay and localise your search to a radius of your postcode you're happy with, (as most are down for collection only due to weight), find one, contact the seller, arrange to view it, go round and bid them in the wotsits, most folk are just glad to get some cash back IME.

PS: if you do get one and you're using it in your house, (I used mine in the shed due to the noise levels), be sure to get a mat to put under it, a block to raise the front wheel, (or a phone book will work), and be sure to have a fan set up and pointed straight at you, because you will sweat like a pig on a spit :sweat::sweat::sweat::sweat::sweat::sweat:

I wouldn't bother, if anything, buy some new tyres next spring.

Im glad someone else has suggested this. My tyres are a bit worse for wear at the moment anyway so I was thinking of using them until they are knackered and replacing them with a decent pair in the spring. Will save me loads as well.

Im watcing one on Ebay as we speak so have to see if I win it. Its a Tacx one which seem. to be pretty decent.

Have everything else just a mat I would need which I expect I can also get on Ebay
