Hi all, can anybody please explain why i keep getting punctures on my trainer. So far i have put on a new tyre and tube and it has punctured twice in the last fortnight.
The trainer is in my conservatory so there is nothing which can be picked up off the floor.
What is happening

when you're not around, your family, so annoyed by the whirring noise, have been sticking tiny pins in your tyres. If you don't ease off you'll find your tyres hanging in ribbons one morning.

Establish where the punctures are occuring on the inner tube to narrow down the problem. E.g. if the punctures are at the side then it could be the inner tube is not seated correctly and is getting pinched by the tyre. To check for this then inflate the tyre just a little and go around the tyre with the your hands pulling the tyre away from the rim both sides.

Or if the puncture is where the tyre is in contact with the roller then could be that the roller is raised too much (should be touching just enough to stop slipping) and heat generated by the friction is causing the inner tube to fail.

P.S You should check also that the tyre is inflated correctly. I always use 8 bar or 115 lbs/sq in.

You are imagining you are riding through the glass bottles smashed accross the roads of Redhill.

Try imaging you are cycling through the clean roads of Switzerland and your problem should dissapear.

A mistake I made when I was new to cycling was explained to me by an experienced cyclist when I complained of repeated punctures... It turned out that I was damaging the tubes with my tyre levers when putting the tyres back on. I am now very careful not to pinch the tube between tyre and rim AND I try not to use levers to get the tyre on. I can usually manage it with my fingers and the palm of my hand; if I have to use a tyre lever, I do it very carefully. I don't have that problem any more.

If you aren't the problem, then do as Bill suggested above. Also, make sure that your rim tape is located properly and is intact.

I had a similar problem on my rollers. In the end I changed the tyre and replaced the tube with a new one - very rare for me as I always use repaired ones! Thankfully it worked. However, I think your problem (and mine too) was probably to do with a pinched tube when putting the tyre on the rim.

All good advice above and should solve your problems. Remember - you're not alone! It even happens on rollers!

if you are using tyre you have used on the road, ther may be embedded flints working their way through

Yet another puncture today after only 10 mins on the trainer. It appeers in the same area every time.
But there is nothing sharp inside the tyre, also its a new trainer tyre and tube but it keeps happening at the contact point on the roller which is smooth and plastic coated. Also its on a laminated floor which is spotless.
What the bloody hell is happening?
