Theres a charity challenge for Cancer Rersearch to ride up and down it 15 times in one day.

Tumble

GPS mapping site i use shows max gradient at 30 % Thats scarily steep for me.

Anyone ridden it ?Is it really that steep?

That would add up to about 120 miles of riding 50% of it up a steep hill, no mean achievment.

I think you undertake to do your best to raise £500 I dont think you would be barred if you raised less. Once the snows gone I wouldnt mind going up there and have a go then make my mind up.

I wont be doing it. i cant commit to the date with any certainty and not sure if riding up and down the same hill all day is that appealing.

I have also had to pull out of another charity ride that clashed with work commitments so have volunteered to do a ride for the RNLI I work next door to the Lifeboat station so know most of the crew .Advantage is that I can do it any day that suits me.

The general plan is a ride from Barry Dock Lifeboat station up into the Brecon Beacons and back via Rhigos and Bwlch mountains. About 100 miles and 3 significant climbs.

Will be a good training ride for the "Dragon" .

I've been up the Tumble. The last stage of the Junior Tour of Wales finishes at the top. It's quite steep with hairpins at the bottom and then starts to flatten out when you get above the tree line, about half way up. I can't remember any part of it being 30%, i'd say average 10-15% with the steepest section probably 20%. It about 3 miles from bottom to top. I wouldn't want to ride up it more than a couple of times, though.

I think that Llanganydir (a bit further to the north west) is harder.

That's an old thread that's been resurected for some reason. I didn't do it in the end last year and don't plan on doing it this coming year. I did do a sponsored ride for RNLI this year instead.
