Hi,

I have just replaced a 700x22 Continental competition with a new tub on my TT bike. The new tyre is a Vittoria 700x23, but it is marked 23-28. It is not fitting properly on the bike, as it seems to be too large and is rubbing the frame. Have I bought the wrong type of tyre? I am new to tubs, not sure where i have gone wrong.

1mm should not make a difference though tyre widths do seem to be a guesstimate rather than an accurate measurement. Is it a dedicated TT bike with very tight clearances?

A picture would help.

My Vittoria Rally tubs are a bit hit and miss. I don't even think some of them are actually round ! Cheap though

They are a bit chunky the Rally. Better off buying a new wheel and a turbo tyre rather than running a nice disk wheel on a turbo. Double check the wheel is seated properly as it doesn't seem to be following the arc of the frame very well.

Try re-seating the wheel . Take the pressure off the skewer and the wheel and pull the back brake . Then re-tighten the skewer .
I have the same disk but wouldnt use a disk and tub on the turbo

I don't mind a lack of quality, it's just for the turbo. It needs to be able to rotate though

You run a disk wheel on a turbo? Why?

Just because I'm new to it and don't know any better. Should I just run a standard clincher on the back? I appreciate the advice, cheers.

The frame is actually a poor design. Close clearance I can understand, but when you go to fag paper levels you are just asking for trouble to no advantage. A fractionally oversize tyre, out of true wheel or something slightly misaligned during manufacture or build and you are buggered. A few more mm gap and no problems.

You might want to check that you have fitted the tyre properly as with close clearance it is essential to centralise your tubs, Did you fit it yourself? Personally I find Rally's cheap and cheerful but they roll up small so a keep one as a spare. Having said that I agree with the cheap wheels and trainer tyre option for a turbo.

New to tubular tyres and just wondering, when you pre glue a spare tub, how do you fold it? Does it matter if the glued faces touch together?
Appreciate help, thanks
