Tubes going bang

Hi all

Had a puncture on my ride earlier on this week. Replaced inner tube and limped home no problem. Just pumped it up to the required psi, and found that it went bang again very quickly! Why might this be??

Did you check your tyre? The object that punctured your first tube is probably still stuck in it.

Hole or debris in tyre, rough edge on rim, or most likely, you pinched the tube fitting it. Check first two pronto.

Yeah I checked the tyre when I replaced it or so I thought. I pumped it up this morning and it went bang while still in the house! Gonna have a second look!

Check your rim tape is properly covering the spoke holes. Also, you don't mean you inflated the tube on its own (ie not fitted to the tyre) do you?

No even I'm not that bad!! Just found a hole in the side of the tyre and a corresponding hole in the tube.

Only had bike since July so a bit surprised I have a hole in the tyre, how did that happen?

Could be a few things...

Under inflation
Over inflation
Rough rim
Brakes blocks set too low at some point

Or just plain bad luck and got a dodgy tyre.

Bad tyre - it has gone at the seam where the reinforced central belt meets the thinner sidewalls.

Not necessarily, if the op has been running his tyres with too low a pressure it's possible the fibres were weakened.

It's a Vittoria Rubino Pro, came with the bike. These are going on now, not very wintery I know but all I have ATM

I normally run them at 110 PSI and pump them up each time before I go out. Hmmmm

I ripped a Gatorskin exactly like that on a rut.
