Tube repair

How big a hole would you repair in a tube?

Ham fisted idjut I am , I have just 'wasted' £8 on a Conti race 28supersonic tube by fitting it and pinching it goddamit... thought I had got away with it.. anyways the hole is about 5 mill across.. is it worth patching?

had to stuff a tube in that weighs another 50grams and wasnt even the right size but it was the only spare I had
wheel is 700 23 btw

I personally wouldn't risk it for racing. Get a new one - 8 quid is cheaper than a crash IMO.

Patch it and keep it for a spare or club run?
I agree with Young Un - I wouldn't race on it.

fix it it'll be fine, even for racing...dont see what the risk is myself

5mm? Pah - patch away.

My, purely mine only and no scientific basis apart from it's not failed yet rule of thumb, is that so long as the patch is at least 1/3 bigger than the hole, she'll be all right mate.

either it holds air or doesn't. there is no in-between

For me personally, I do not trust patched tubes, I don't know why because they do always hold the air, but I just like to have a fresh non-patched tube in, especially for racing. If it was for training, then just go for it, for racing, I wouldn't risk it.

If you patch a tube properly there's really no risk of it failing. I patch all my tubes unless the hole is on a dodgy place, like a mould line.
