Well I started my first ever TT Season on the 18th April this year. My goals before the season were as follows:

1. Early season - break evens (30 mins)
2. By end of season get into 28's

Last night I put in a 28:30

It was a very good evening weather wise and despite a bit of rain quite a few put in good times and gained PB's.

I wonder if a 27 or even a 26 is on the cards?

It is getting rather addictive all this.

PS
I ride a standard road bike with Tri bars.
Times can vary between each course a time of under 23 minutes on our course has this comment from our TT secretary
- considering that our course is both long and hilly with four corners must approximate to a 20 minute ride or better on a fast course -
So if you are comparing my times to yours don't as dependent on the course I may be giving away a few minutes to you or you may be giving away away a few minutes to me.

Try road racing. It will be much tougher than a TT to begin with (you are forced to go out of your comfort zone) but speed, acceleration and bike handling will improve enormously.

Many thanks for the feedback. I actually participated in our Club's road race at Hog Hill on Sunday. Went into the Novice category the first few laps a few old hands were on hand to calm everything down and get us riding in a group but with three laps to go they pulled off and the pace went up dramatically. I just tried my hardest to keep on the wheel in front about 5 back from the front. At one point the paced went up massively almost like a mini sprint and I really thought I had lost the wheel (unbeknown to me at the time) it was because 5 of us broke away. I fought like hell to get back on the wheel in the front and then I realised that we had broke away. The pace slowed a tiny bit and I was just looking about seeing who would go and I saw a guy twitching and knew what wheel I wanted. By the last of those 3 laps we were pushing 26/27 miles an hour. I knew the guy who would go towards the end and tried my hardest to get on his wheel but because of my earlier efforts I just had nothing left and did not have the legs for that final push to the line but ended up with a 5th out of about 15-20 starters.

Definately very different to a TT and could not agree more that it will imrove handling, speed and acceleration no end. Those last couple of laps gave me a good insight as to what will happen in a proper Cat 4 race.

Was also very good fun but absolutely knackering and we only did about 11 miles !!

If you start road racing I suspect your TT times will improve considerably. It's hard to make those sort of efforts in training.
If you like time-trials perhaps then try a different course (other local club's events or even an open event) at the same distance, perhaps see if there are some events at other distances you want to enter.
Under 28 on your regular course should be easily achievable. Chances are you could do it without any further training, just by pacing it better.

Good result in your first race BTW.
