Ciao a tutti

Just pondering this one while waiting for the Giro to come on...

I have been in a pattern of repeatedly biting off more than I can chew when not really ready for it. Usually I get talked into / talk myself into doing a big ride on not much training. So I am trying to calm down and be more consistent, just do some shorter rides regularly and build up more slowly. However - I am doing Le Petit Départ in Yorkshire next weekend as I am going with friends and we signed up ages ago. I'll get round, however slowly, but how do I avoid then being off the bike for weeks with a cold / bug? I'm assuming it's because my immune system goes down but that could be a load of cr*p, I don't know!

Has anyone got any good tips?

Cheers

Too warm beats too cold - just make sure you stay hydrated.
Keep fueled up and eat well after.
Have a lie in the next day if possible

Unfit you can either go fast and short or long and slow. Both and you spend more time off the bike which gets you nowhere. Sorry can't help. I've Learnt the hard way to keep it steady or pick one of the above options
