Hello everyone

I've been cycling to work since July or so.....going well so far, but now the colder / wetter weather is starting to kick in, I was wondering what to do about clothing.

For above the waist, I've got it figured out, but not sure about trousers etc. I tend to cycle (1 hr each way) using shorts at the moment. Weird thing is that there's been a couple of really wet days and I've never been bothered about my legs getting wet, but with the cold coming, it's the temperature I'm more worried about.

What do you guys wear for keeping your legs warm, or do you not bother since they're generally always moving?

For the last three winters I've just used these Endura leg warmers with my shorts, and I ditch them when it's too warm

Running trousers or tights under the bib shorts. Basic weight runners for temps down to zero ish degrees, anything in the region of 5 or more below and the fleece lined runners come out.

I use running tights to keep my legs warm on the commute to work, ok for now, but when it does get a lot colder will be looking for something a little warmer

Tights for me in anything under 10 degrees, but I'm a wuss and like to be toasty warm. I'd recommend overshoes as well (BBB are very good IMO)

If it's a bit nippy, then I use boxer shorts (specifically made for cross country skiing) under bib shorts with knee warmers and leg warmers. If it's wet, as well, I mayuse same but with rain overtrousers (Craft or Altura etc).

If it's downright cold, then said underpants under long winter bibs.

Overshoes, as EasyTigers says, is also to be recommended.

Unless I go for a long ride, I cycle in my black works trousers and on days when I need to protect them from the elements I wear a thin pair of Montane over trousers; warning though if the ots are too thick and/orunbreathable they become sweat traps.

Fleecy, showerproof bib longs for when the temperature falls below about 5C. Also carry a set of waterproof trousers for extreme deluges. I find my cadence suffers and I'm more prone to aches and strains if I let my legs get too cold.

Clothing will vary depending on vaious factors.......
Distance of journey to work.
Do you travel at a leisurely pace or regard it as a 'training run' and sweat a lot?
Changing facilities, or lack of, at each end of trip.
Weather conditions.

Also, do you have to walk through the office in your cycling kit? (I do). You can get some funny looks when wearing skin tight lycra/roubaix tights.

I wear old-school Tudor Sport longs, a bit baggier than tight lycra, but fleece lined and very warm.
