You are absolutely right - it is a a fine area for cycling. 40 miler, Trough of Bowland? Sysagent has already plotted a route just for you - here it is!

this month's C+ has a ride around there - loop of about 40 miles from Lancaster over the Cross of Greet climb which is the next road to the east of the Trough. Then back over Oakenclough. It's a good route but the C of Greet is quite a climb, tougher then the Trough but a lot less traffic.

It's fantastic for scenery and on a good day cruising along the valleys is a great experience. I have covered it about three times in the last year or so but never in poor weather which may make it seem tougher.

Where are you based sam?

Nice one Sam K,
yep, Bowland is a great place to ride a bike, very quiet roads with some classic climbs, and great views.
Lancaster CC organise a sportive in june over 3 routes http://www.le-terrier.co.uk/ the short route is a classic introduction to the area, and simple to follow as there arent too many junctions out there! The long "hors category" route is bonkers and should only be attempted if you enjoy lots of pain and buying a new chain after each ride!!
I'm always up for some Trough based fun, so if you want someone to ride (slowly) with, let me know!
Maybe Colinj will be organising a forum ride this way before too long??!!:hello:

I might do this route again some time this summer. The second time we did it, the heavens opened up so we cut out Waddington Fell and headed straight back. It is definitely a different ride in bad weather!
