Triple chainset to a double

I've done a bit of searching around but want to make sure my understanding is correct.

I have a Tiagra triple on my winter bike. It's getting worn so am thinking the best solution is to swap the compact Tiagra chainset from my other bike (fairly new chainset) onto my winter bike. I can then upgrade to a better chainset on my nicer bike.

On the winter bike I then simply need to adjust the limit screw such that it cannot use the 3rd shift function. It is better to use the limit screw on the inner chain line as that way you can still use the trim function on the triple shifter.

I shouldn't need to re-position the front derailleur as the large chainrings are the same size.

Does this sound right?

Thanks

You may have to adjust the reach as the position of triple rings could slightly different, I have two triple chainsets but both require different width B.B.'s one 113mm one 116mm, though I currently have 115mm fitted I think.
Having said that I dont know enough about all chainset and spec's, so you could find its a straight swap.

The triple tiagra chainset will have spacers to make it fit correctly, when I changed from a tiagra double to a tiagra triple I needed to add spacers.
I think they were used to sort out the chain line.

Thanks chaps - might throw it the lbs's way. I have a short temper and can see the bike being thrown in frustration:whistle:
If I can do it anyone can, going to a double should be easier as no spacers required.
Once you find the correct shimano tech document it is even more straightforward.

Done this before - I changed the bottom bracket too - shorter one size recommended for the chainset, but you should be ok. Shifter wise as you say limit screws. Less of a pain than a triple to set up.

If the BBs are compatible, then you probably just need to adjust the limit screws at both top and bottom.
