A lad I know has a Triban 3, but he finds the gearing a bit high. It's got Microshift shifters, 8 speed 12-25 cassette, 50/39/30 triple, longish cage Microshift (I think) rear mech.

The obvious move is to put a different cassette on, say 11-28.

Questions:
I'm presuming it's a Shimano compatible cassette. Is that right?
From the look of the mech cage, it should be able to cope with the extra range. Can anyone confirm this?

Pretty sure it is a Shimano compatible cassette. If they are still using the Shimano 2300 derailleur then it should take an 11-28 just fine, might even get away with a 30.

I am a proud owner of Triban 3. I explored this possibility but got the advice, I can't remember where, that it is bit more complicated than just changing the cassette.
Decathlon shop is usually very helpful. They will tell what could be done.

I have a SRAM PG-850 11-28 cassette on my T3. the 28 teeth were a minor challenge because I'm a red T3 and the rear derailleur hanger is really short, so there is literally only just enough room with the B adjuster maxed out. It works, but would be better with a longer hanger/reach derailleur. You may find that the newer model (T3A) has a longer derailleur hanger so it is not as much of a problem. I forget where the 'tool' was for calculating the extra number of chain lengths needed but I ended up with 1 pair less than it stated...
