So I finally decided that I would spend £300 of my hard earned cash on the much hyped Triban 3. So cash in hand I looked on Decathlon's website only to find that they had sold out of the size 60 in all 3 of my local stores and much further afield too. They did have some left in Scotland however that's a 400 mile return trip.

So with said £300 now burning a hole in my pocket I turned to the internet and looked at ways that I could lighten the pocket. Ebay, Halfords, discount bike sellers and all were falling a little bit short of where my expectations were.

So I picked up the phone and called my local bike shop, I had been it there a few weeks ago when I heard a customer asking if they did part-ex which they did. I asked them if they had any trade-ins that might be worth my while and they came up with this:

Trek 1.5 - they had just serviced it and put all new cables on it..... how much?? £300 - job done!!

I decided the Triban 3 was a dead certainty for me, to the point that I was planning the road trip to buy one, until my local bike doctor showed me an ex-hire bike with Dura ace chainset, ultegra hubs and derailleurs, carbon forks and mavic ma3 wheels that he's selling for £350. I'm going to test ride it this Saturday but most of the 'test ride' might be me rubbing my thighs with glee.

I rode this bike a very long time ago and found it really jumpy, but that's when I had NEVER ridden a road bike, I've got a couple years experience on a road bike under my belt now so can't wait!

That is a good result mate! Hope you get lots of trouble free miles on it, nice one.
Just shows that it is always worth checking out the used collection in the local bike shop.
There will always be someone trading up or packing in.
