I have always been against the use of headphones when cycling. However my kids bought me a set of Trekz bone headphones for Christmas so I thought I would give them a go on my ride yesterday. They are very clever, you can still hear all the background noise, most importantly for me - traffic approaching from behind. I don't think I will use them all the time because I still like cycling in silence but they are certainly an option for when I fancy some entertainment. They will also be useful for navigating - I tend to use voice prompts on my phone but these can be drowned out if there is a lot of background noise.

Love mine. Use them for commuting and also at work. It's like having the radio on - I can still hear any conversations at the same time. They lose some sound quality - I mostly listen to classical music which tends to have a greater dynamic range so I can sometimes lose the quieter stuff.
They also take a bit of practice getting the positioning right when teemed with cycling classes, buffs and whatever you choose to put on your head! Mine are Aftershoks bluetooth.

I did seriously consider trying Aftershoks, but the price point turned me off, I see they have a new cheaper wired version. I hadn't considered using them in conjunction with google maps app etc, could be quite useful when touring/lost on new roads.

Be wary of high tempo music, it can subconsciously make you travel faster than you might otherwise, thus increasing risks amongst traffic. Personally I wouldn't use them on busy roads, but each to their own, auto-motons get their infotainment centres, so why can't we have ours

That is where I went wrong - put on a Coldplay album and recorded my slowest time for a couple of years !

I've been looking at getting a pair of these recently - how do they fit with glasses/sunglasses which I wear all the time on the bike?

I was a bit unsure about this as well so I tested them out with a pair of sunglasses and a helmet. Everything seemed to sit nicely together.

In terms of fit, i sometimes find it tricky in winter when i am wearing something thick around my neck. When in "road bike position " my buff pushes on the back of the band and moves the headphones out of position.

I got some of the AfterShokz Trekz Air Bluetooth headphones a week ago. I've used them 3 or 4 times since and I'm a convert - they're great for cycling. They can also connect to 2 devices simultaneously so I can listen to navigation and mp3s on my GPS unit but my phone will interrupt them if anyone calls. Jolly useful!

Great gift to receive, I would certainly recommend them :okay:
