My sister is looking at buying one of these on the cycle to work scheme.

She has previous experience of bouncing about on a second hand non branded budget full suspension bike.

She wants it to travel to work and it will cost £600 from her local bike shop.

Would this be a good bike and a resonable price?

I personally am riding an poor choice of bike I bought several years ago and cannot afford to update, but all of my dream bikes are hardtails. I haven't looked into road bikes so don't know what to advise her.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

My wife has a 7.2 FX WSD that she is very satisfied with.

Is your sister aware that the TREX FX range are available is a WSD design - minor geometry differences and seat designs that suit some women more than the mens geometry.

Good bikes, i have had 2 7300, i would avoid the model with suspension forks,as they add weight for little benefit (unless your going for light off roading). Carbon fork would be better

I've got the cheaper 7.3FX. I use it almost every day on a 10-12 mile commute (there and back). I love it - it practically skips over the tarmac. On some of the rougher bits of road I'd like a carbon fork, but it's fine as it is. Going to take it touring next year.

Thanks all. I have passed the info on. My sis is also looking at a slightly more expensive option - 7.8? as she wants to get the best that she can afford and take it travelling.

I am so jealous! I bought my bike a few years ago. I turned up at a bike shop and bought one that looked nice. I wish I had looked into it more.

But I do want the best for my sis!

Thanks again.

I have an original Trek 7.5 FX. Solid forks so no extra weight. Very strong and quite light for what it is. Excellent build quality and mine is still in excellent condition. Superb bike for the price. Mine is now a touring bike and has received a few upgrades such as hand built 36H wheels on XT hubs and a triple road chainset. I don't ride it that often now but when I do it's like putting on an old pair of comfy gloves, shoes or your favourite jacket.

Not sure if Trek has retained the quality of the model in recent years. I would be looking for braize ons on the front forks to be able to fit a front rack which a carbon fork would not have neither would it be suitable to fit a rack on with a mounting kit IMHO.
