been looking round at hybrid bikes , liked the look of the subway but put off by halfords , the trek 7.2 is the same price but looks like it has better components and better after sales service any advice welcome, or any other bikes around £300

The subway has had very good reviews in the comics. There's also no guarantee that the dealer who sells you a Trek 7.2 is any more competent than the Halfords branch that you might buy a Subway from. There's good and bad service in non Halfords bike shops just like there is in the Halfords branches - you have no means of know what sort of service you'll get other than personal recommendations.

FWIW - I have never been let down by the Kirkstall and Seacroft branches of Halfords here in Leeds and I've purchase Carrerra Kraken and Subway bikes which proved to be relaiable and excellent value for money.
