I've been on rides anything from 30-75 miles on my Hybrid, taking at least a rucksack and a handlebar bag for various things including drinks, maps, food, spares etc.I've just bought my first road bike, wanted to try something different but still keep my Hybrid.Obviously, with a road bike you keep things to a bare minimum, spare inner tubes, basic tools,a few drinks, basic food but having the lack of space to store the stuff you need what do you suggest?A Saddlebag can only store a few things.
If I'm off on a fairly long ride,60-100 miles,I'd need more than two drinks,so I'd need to call at a shop for more, therefore I'd feel the need to take a bicycle lock, increasing the weight I'd be carrying.Any tips?

If you are just nipping into the shop unless its in a dodgy area a light weight cafe lock will suffice. There's
been loads of threads discussing them, giving a few options.

I bought a large topeak saddle bag. They can hold a fair bit if packed well

Sent from my GT-I9100

My usual kit is:
A bottle or two (water not Gin ;))
Spare tube/s
Mini pump
Multitool (with tyre levers and chain tool)
Quick link
A couple of Bananas and or cereal bars (occasionally a gel)
Gilet/jacket depending on climate
And occasionally a small cafe lock.

I'm down south just now and my last 114miles on a heavy steel single speed, I had
One bottle
Spare tube
Mini Pump
P'ture repair kit (with spanner - wheels are not quick release)
Tyre Levers
and small cafe lock
but I went slower and stopped more.

I agree with the above 100% but I'd suggest one of the cheap movement alarm locks available for a few quid now.
Useless as a main defence of course but ideal if you're just popping into a shop for a pack of woodbines {joke}.The noise allows you to run out and point out the error of their ways, foiling the "snip the lock and hide it round the corner/ in a garage " brigade.
