I know very little about sportives but am quite interested and have started reading up on them. One question that sticks out in my mind is how go you get back from one after you've completed it? To travel to the start I assume I drive there with the bike on the bike rack. Is the finish back at the start? If not how do I get back to my car?

I think you'll find they almost always finish back where they started.

But if not....:bicycle:

Every sportive I've done has been circular but the one that spawned out of Pedal for Scotland, is oneway I believe and I think they organise buses/ vans. I doubt they'd get many folk signing up at £xx, if they dumped you in the middle of nowhere when you were finished.

Some cyclists use a principle of never driving further than they are going to ride

All the rides I've looked at which don't start where they finish offer some sort of transport for riders & bicycles back to the start. I'm fortunate to have had my wife or other member of my family to ferry me back on the ones like that I've done so far.

The Tour of Flanders was a bit of pain to get back from the finish as the start and finish town are quite a long distance apart. We decided to dump the minibus at the finish and a got a train back to Bruges, but it did take rather a long time and in retrospect having a non-cycling driver would have been the best option.
