I'm planning to ride Liverpool-Stockport-Liverpool soon, and it looks like I'm going to use the Trans Pennine Trail. I'm familiar with it west of Warrington (where it crosses the Mersey), but east of that point is new to me.

I'd be grateful to hear any useful tips/info for that stretch: dodgy surfaces, possible places to get lost, good cafés, etc.

Hi, I cycle on the bit from lymm to chorlton water park quite a bit.

Most is off road and the surfaces are very good, so much so that if it was dry most would be passable on 23 tyres.

There is one bit of on road, in broadheath, for about 1.5 miles. It is quiet although one bit of it is a nsl, although it is arrow straight so has good sight lines.

The trail is well signposted although there are a few places that you can go wrong.

There's one bit I don't like, which is just before sale water park where you are forever going though a series of those annoying type gates. These are where the gate is centred within a semi circle pen and you have to swing your bike through, almost always catching some part of your bike against the gate.
There is an alternative route to avoid this but difficult to explain.

Been doing the section from Altrincham to Warrington the last few weekends, on 23 tyres
Haven't done the bit to Stockport yet.
