Any advice about this Southport to Hornsea ride please

I did this in September last year. Mixed feelings. See notes attached. Maybe I diverted from the route to follow my own personal places so missed the signage.

I've read @Windhover 's write up and id strongly recommend to buy the official Sustrans TPT maps. The sineage isn't great at time and the maps will help keep you on course.

That being said I think it still a great ride, I've done it from Liverpool > Hornsea over 3 days. I also only had a small 10l saddle bag, no panniers, so wasn't carrying much weight.

Yes it's a nice ride, the hardest part is over woodhead Pass, i stopped off in Premier inn's rather than carry Camping gear, first at at Hale, [right next to trail] Wath Upon Dearne and Hull west, all next to trail. Take your bike in the room in all Premier inn's, if you start on the Sunday you get the first night cheap, usually Premier Inn's are cheaper on a Sunday.

The trail from Hull to Horneas is the old railway line, mostly paved but very Bumpy in Places. You can cycle to Honsea from Hull and Back again to Hull and catch the train Back to wherever you want then.

It say's the trail is about 60 per cent traffic free, i would say that's about right, the roads once you get past Howden are my favourite section, i often go back to Howden and cycle to Hornsea. Enjoy if you do it, that's the main thing.
