Im on my way to devon today with a bike by train. Unfortunately i didnt have time to book my bike. I ran into some pretty rude first great western staff on the way. One told me that if i put my bike on his train i wud be liable if it injured anyone. For a moment i thought he had this idea i was going to ride bike on his train. It got me thinking though. If my bike did injure anyone on a train woule for eg ctc insurance cover me?

A jobsworth? I think I would have just laughed, just ignore stupid people/comments like that. You're no more liable if you injure someone on a train with a bike than anywhere else, what's the worse you can do - run someone's foot over with the front wheel or poke somebody with the handlebar? :becool:

Having taken a bike by train a lot, I find other passengers are careful not to touch my bike, let alone knock it.
If someone moves close to it, I stare at them and scowl. That usually gets them to move away.
Following this facial expression of 'intent', if they then touch, knock or lean on my bike, it's 'criminal damage' and I can take them to civil court if there is any damage.

The trains I have travelled on have places for bike storage. I am doubly assured if the bike is in a dedicated area of the train.

Stand your ground.

"Toucha ma bike, I breaka ya face".
