I went out for a little 10 miler after work in the dark, I got some half decent lights from the cycle show. I was also testing my new BBB over shoes,Giant waterproof gloves and waterproof jacket which all seemed to be doing their job as they should so well chuffed on staying dry. At 9 miles a landy overtook me I was doing about 24 & seemed to be keeping with the landy when bang I hit a pothole and both tyres blow out the front slides about all over the place I manage to stop with out crashing and as I am only a mile decide to push it home. Later in the evening I take the wheels out and fit new tubes but the rims are quite badly damaged the rear is worse than the front this is on my nice Mavic Aksiums. I do wish that I had used my MTB last night

Unlucky, those potholes are sly 'little' things!
Good job in not crashing though.

Take a photo of the offending pothole and your damaged rims and you may be able to get some money off the council for the damage. I know you can for cars so why not for bikes as well?

What's the difference between training and going for a ride?

Get better lights.
I supose the difference is harder riding and riding with the aim to improve for a specific event. For me my goal is a 10 mile TT on new years day. My goal is also to get a 28 min run, I am also working towards doing my first sportive. Looking at a motorbike battery with car spot lights
