Hi guys - I've just signed up for the Macmillan London to Paris 2016 ride. At the moment I can comsfortably cover a pretty hilly 80-100, but that's me for a few days.

The ride for Macmillan will be covering the following distances over 4 days (Km) 145/125/125/90

I was hoping I could get some advice/tips of the kind and frequency of training you guys have done for similar events - in order to get to a point where by the third day you actually still have legs! The ride isn't until July next year so I've a fair bit of time

Cheers!

P.S. If anyone wants to donate for the ride the link is here (shameless!) ;)

For me it would be learning to pace yourself and not try to do the distance as fast as possible, just keep a steady easy cadence.(and get some miles in)

Would've thought Macmillan would have a training plan? Have you asked them?

I'm doing L2P next year too and it was suggested that I do a long ride (130 to 160km) followed by a 30 to 40km ride the day after. Apparently this gets your body used to riding on tired legs. (Disclaimer: I was told his by an endurance runner who assured me the same applies to cycling  )

That is the way to do though, get used to doing consequetive days in training. Not necessarily the full distance but get used to back to back days and then put in a couple of 3 dayers a month ish ahead of the actual ride.

And enjoy!

Ah I guess, I mean by the 4th days of say 4x20 I'd probably feel it might do that for a few weeks then start ramping up the odd day.

Hi mwktar, similar advice to Sat Nav. I did LTP 3 years ago and found that working up to doing 3/4 sessions in a row worked well. If you can include sat/sun you can get a couple of longer rides built in. Also when you do the actual ride you will probably find they build a number of rest/feed stops in as well.

It's a great ride so enjoy it and don't forget a few beer tokens for in Paris to celebrate.

Cheers guys - in the next few weeks I'm going to try my staple 20 miler (about 1,200ft climbing) for 4 consecutive days and see how I feel.

Will keep that up until I get to a point where I'm getting comfy by the 3rd and see about increasing one/two days mileage.
