Hi, I have a 16 year old son who has been riding a lot for the past month and is getting quite good on the bike. He already has quite a good aerobic base from doing a lot of running for most of his life but he doesn't particularly know how to train for cycling and has generally been doing a 1 and a half hour flat ride followed by a 2 and a half- 3 and a half hour long ride the next day for 6 days a week. Just wanted to know what he could do to improve his training and get better. Plus thoughts on what to do about joining a club.
Cheers, Bill.

This could possibly be true for a 16 year old, but if by 'just cycle' you mean to amble about aimlessly then this is not true nor does it address the question.

As I indicated (by quoting the remark), the phrase used was 'training for cycling' - so the best training for cycling is -- cycling. Maybe the OP meant something more specific, but we don't know and I'm sure we wouldn't want to assume....
