Hi,

It has come to the time where I need to replace the front wheel (braking area worn) of my commute bike which is a Specialized Langster. I only ever brake using the front wheel and am looking at the Halo Aero track wheel as a replacement but I am not sure they have a braking surface and are in fact anodised.

Does anyone have any experience of such wheels? Will I be able to still use the front brake (which I need to)? I am currently running 'Koolstop salmon' pads which are designed for wet/winter riding.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The Halo's have a machined braking surface, but it is anodised. The anodising will be gone following your 1st ride in the wet.

They are fine to run with brakes.

Or there is that, the only difference you will notice is that the Aero rage will look nicer as it ages. The anodising on the track ones wont likely wear in a super clean way so it might not look so pretty, if you care about such things. But to clarify they DO have a machined braking surface, its just been anodized so it is matching colours with the rest of the rim.

There will be no difference whatsoever in terms of performance. My Mavic is black anodised and the braking power with a standard 105 caliper and brake block is very good, cant tell any difference vs my old wheels at all.
