er.. I don't know where this post should go, so if an admin thinks it should go elsewhere, please move it!
I live in Cambridge UK, and I'd like to give track cycling a go. I've emailed my local cycling club but so far haven't had any response. I'm reasonably fit and have been cross training (for rowing, of course ;)) on a road bike for a while. I figure my rowing muscles aren't going to get me up many hills very speedily (I'm no tiny Emma Pooley-massive congrats to her!) so in my quest for a new sport I'd like to try track cycling.
I have NO idea where to start though---the nearest velodrome type thingamy I could track down was at Welwyn, which is a good way off. Anyone have any advice or suggestions? Obviously I don't want to jump in and buy a track bike straight away, I just want to give the sport a try. How can I do this?
Thanks,
Joff

Most tracks hire bikes out for a few quid/session.

It's my experience that cycling clubs often don't answer their emails. Try joining a ride or turning up at an event and asking questions instead.
