Hi all,
Fitted one of these to my Cinelli Experience to measure speed and cadence so I can improve my training on the commute and on the turbo (if I ever get back on it).
So in short you put a magnet on the spokes, a magnet on the crank (non-chain side), and a unit on the chain stay that reads from both.
The tricky but is getting both to be close enough to the unit.
Looks like the Wahoo pictures, but doesn't read the cadence:
Fitting to the crank I took the opportunity to wipe and regrease the pedal:
Big gap means the crank sensor isn't read:
So had to move the unit up towards the rim where the chain stay is slimmer and the spokes more distant. This allows the unit to be angled toward the crank, and the sensor arm angled down to avoid the spokes:
It doesn't look quite right, but it does work - speed and cadence measured.
Pairing with my iPhone 6+, you need to move the magnets past the unit to make it up - you'll see a blue light flicker.
The Wahoo app shows it in real time for free, and you can "add apps and devices" into Mapmyride although you need to pay for it to display the data.
My only concern is the rubber strap to hold it on isn't as reliable as my bike lights strap, and slips out quite easily.
