Keen but clumsy

Hi,
My Ridgeback Voyager came with Tektro Oryx brakes which I really struggled to adjust. Following advice from here I replaced with Tektro CR720 - which have been excellent.
The problem now is that I have fitted a baby seat on the back and the brake arms are fouled by the foot rest. I guess I have two options - one is to take a hack saw to the seat to create a notch for the brakes; the other is to replace the rear brakes with an alternative with shorter arms. I prefer the later.
Can anyone recommend an alternative brake for a touring bike? I have had a look at the Avid Shorty range which appear to be the best option. Shimano Ultegra BR-CX70 would also do the job.
Advice appreciated - thanks,
