One hell of a crash 500m from today's finish. Renshaw is in 2nd position when he goes down. Broken collar bone for him and Genechten.

It was appalling and amazing all in one go. The commentators had been saying how manic and crazy the race had become in the last few kms. I recall Cav saying he got fearful in some races due to some of the loose cannons.

Which was why it was so devastating, I suppose. There was only a handful out right and out of the way of the crash ''wake.''

I suppose that's one thing we don't consider in our normal riding/ crashing lives- having 100+ riders going over the top of you at 25+mph all unable to stop in time due to the 2/3ft between them. Looked painful, I bet the crowd at the finish line were wondering where everyone was.

Steep that, wasn't it? I suppose I'll have to give a grudging acknowledgement that the UCI is finally beginning to deliver on the globalisation of cycling.
