Anyone doing this in October?

The same guy at work who talked me into doing the White Rose is suggesting this as the last sportive of the year.

As it's just over the hill from me I'm sorely tempted to do the 62 mile route, don't think I'd enjoy the 100+ miler if it was chucking it down and blowing a gale (which it probably will be).

Busy cycling that w/e, so I hope the weather is good to you/us/them.

Nice trip out on a good day, and if it's not then you'll know the shortcuts home.

I'd really like to do this but I'm a bit put off by the severity of some of the climbs. For the past 18 months I've been riding my MTB up some brutal climbs in the peak district/goyt valley area, but I've just got a road bike and I'm still getting used to not having a granny ring! I know I sound like a right softie but I don't fancy my chances of getting up a 20% gradient (Winnats) when my lowest gear is 38x26.

I've entered for the 60ish mile route, and Mr Spinney has entered for the long one.

I reserve the right to walk up the steepest hills, though!

I thought I'd try Winnats Pass today to see if I'm man enough. OMG, what a beast. Mind you I had cycled a hilly 30 miles to get there, so my legs were like jelly from the off. Ended up walking most of it which was hard enough. Did another 35 miles to get home so it was a decent training run. If I do enter this race I'll definitely be walking Winnats (I think it's after 40 miles), but I reckon I'll get up the Cat & Fiddle no bother (done it before the hard way). Not sure about the other big hill though, don't know much about that one.

There's one or two other big hills moolarb.

Strines - shortish steep climbs
Holme Moss - b***tard
Glossop to Hayfield - mega b***tard, especially after big mileage

+ plus plenty of others, Moscar (away from Ladybower), Millers Dale etc etc

Riding the long route meself, cant wait:ohmy:

now you've got me worried

at least I'm only doing the short course so I will miss out Holme Moss & Glossop at least

looking forward to it though (if the weather's OK)

I'll defo be walking some of the hills, but I just hope I don't bonk too badly

Sorry to post negatively, but I've done the Cheshire Cat from KiltoToGo twice and wasn't impressed with the foodstops, have also seen similar comments on forums about their Wild Edric too, so just a bit of advance warning.

On the Cheshire Cat, they had underripe bananas and Tesco Value range doughnuts (!), apple pies and sausage rolls : not exactly what I'd call high-quality food for a hard day out on a bike...
They did have High 5 energy drink, but no gels or energy bars or anything like that - although at registration there was a guy from High 5 with a stall, he was giving-out one free gel per person.

So if you prefer gels, energy bars, maltloaf, etc then maybe take some of your own...

Have a good day though - hope the weather's good for you !

weather is looking bad for tomorrow morning, wet and windy, which is a real shame

don't fancy some of those steep descents in the wet with my canti brakes

might give it a miss

I'm a chicken, dan. I decided a while back that I wouldn't do it if it's wet. I don't mind getting wet and I cycle in all weathers but I'm still getting used to my road bike with rim brakes. I'm used to disc brakes on my MTB which will stop me from 45mph to zero on a steep descent, but those canti brakes scare me sh1tless.

Also having 2nd thoughts. The wind will make it really unpleasant...
Plus the time spent driving up to the Peak District on Friday afternoon motorways...
