I know people complain about Duffers but blimeyolriley I'm Saun Kelly's monotonous drone is giving me a real headache.

I only understand 1 word in three as it is but his drone is spoiling the tour for me. Sorry but I just think they can do better.

I have got rid of Eurosport, and have to make do with ITV4.

Not bad.

The music on ITV4 is starting to drive me nuts though. They seem to be cutting to ad breaks every few minutes:wacko:

yeah he's a nice guy alright and very knowledgable its just such a great pity that he can't narrate . He has actually improved over the years but he needs some voice coaching or something

I must be one of the few - I've grown to like him and appreciate his expertise and I've learnt to decipher the brogue.

I totally disagree (edit - with everyone else, not rich p). He is often very insightful, reads the race excellently and relates the current era of cycling to his own very well.

And over the years people whingeing about Seàn Kelly's monotonous drone has become far more monotonous and droning than he is. I stopped noticing it probably after the first Tour I watched with him commentating. Actually, I even think it suits his composed analysis of the race.

Whenever he takes a few seconds to start answering one of David Harmon's questions, I always like to think it's because he's just having a sip of his pint first.

I think Kelly is great. I think he offers really good insight into the race and his deadpan delivery is a nice foil to the over excitability of the main commentators. Personally I find Sherwin and Ligett banging on about 'the bike race' and saying things like 'they call him the Manx Missile, and he's really launched himself..' along with all the other hyperbole far more tedious than Kelly.

My only experience of Mr Kelly comes from the Tour DVD wot I've passed on to Punky Possum (it's the one in the official Tour program...;)) and I have to say that his delivery of the cut scene links had me stuffing pins in my ears. If he was any more wooden you could top him with sulphur and use him as a match.

And the Liggett/Smirkingchimp combo is irritating as hell but it's all I've got.

ITV4 is actually very very good. I very much like their very well informed yet understated approach to commentary. I find I'm watching the racing with helpful and interesting input on the side, rather than listen to people talking whilst the racing's going on.

It's the way he says "General Classment" that gets on my knockers.

For pete's sake man, either say "Classement Général" in French or "General Classification" in English.

Heh, to be fair I have seen a few clips of that and you're right.

His Eurosport commentary is first-class, though.

I don't mind his drone, the negatives are far outweighed by the positives, mainly his expertise.

Anything is better than Duffers though, he's a liability, no idea what is going on, constantly interrupting, absolutely useless...
