Today is considered the last day before Paris for the sprinters but I'm not sure after the struggle Cav has had in the last stages that he has the energy left to go for this one. It could turn out to be another break away that gets the podium at the end of the day but for me I still hope that Cav and his team can make it over the line with arms raised and a big smile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am hoping Cav has something back. Interesting that the intermediate is less than 50km from the finish at 143km out. Could mean that HTC have a long time to chase down any breakaway.

I think it's only Rojas he's competing with now for green. Gilbert has put too much into GC efforts and Thor looked well and truely spent yesterday. That said Cav needs to get through the Alps within limits.

Cav maybe happy to see a large break go and mop up the points. Not sure its in his makeup though. I wouldn t be too sure about Gilbert. Gap could be made for him.

They all looked spent yesterday.

HTC need to mark Rojas, Gilbert and Thor. As long as they don't get away he should be OK. Let's hope for a large long breakaway that makes it to the end.

cant see htc allowing a breakaway to succeed cav needs the points today, as i reckon gilbert could do well into gap
in a sprint theres only a few still there that could trouble cav

This is "my" stage. 3:0 pm for the caravan with my grandson, and 4:30 for the peloton with biking pals.

Will try and post a pic or two if I can.

Cavendish wins after a fantastic display by HTC who were forced to mount a one-team pursuit of a five man breakaway for over 100km.

The more I watch the sprint the more I admire what courage they all have. And when you hear about the power they have to put down, phew.

Yes a good day for HTC. They have to man mark Rojas and hope Gilbert doesn't pick up too many points before Paris. With Cav hopefully winning on the Champs, he may well be well on the way to keeping the Green.

With the main GC contenders mainly marking each other over the mountains during the last couple of tours, I really enjoy watching the competitiveness of the sprints. My heart was pumping at the end today. Really hope Cavendish wins Green this year. For a rider and his team to dominate so much over recent years, it would be fitting for them to get the jersey.

Here are some pics from yesterday. Didn't make it to the top of the hill as my grandson enjoyed the caravan so much he wanted to see the race go by too, so we stayed where we were. He couldn't believe the weird vehicles roaring by and all the stuff getting chucked at us, and it is weird. This is the 5th or 6th time I've watched the Tour go past and it's like nothing else on earth. A bit like being in some sort of mad parallel universe for two hours.
