I recently bought a set of 12 plates from the 1930s commemorative the thirtieth anniversary of the Tour de France. Each plate bears an illustration of a key moment in those early editions of the Tour - such as Maurice Garin winning the first ever stage to Lyon, or Francois Faber completing his record run of five stage wins in a row in 1909.

I'd love to know more about these fantastic plates. They were made by the French ceramics giant H Boulenger & Cie in Choisy-le-Roi, the suburb of Paris. But that is all the information I have. Can anyone help me shed some light on their provenance?

The kind of things I'm interested in knowing are:
- how many of these plates were made?
- how much did they cost?
- how/where were they sold?
- who commissioned them and who decided upon the subjects?
- where the Tour organisers and/or L'Auto newspaper involved at all?
- who was the artist? (There are no signatures on the plates.)
- are they worth anything today beyond the sentimental?

I'd also love to hear from anyone else who has this collection, or even just one plate from the collection. I'd love to know how they ended up with them, what they think of them, which one is their favourite and why etc.

I'm a journalist by trade and this could form the basis of a feature in Rouleur magazine. Many thanks for your thoughts, help or suggestions.
