Hi All,

Newbie to the world of cycling. I'm 21 and although I can ride a bike, I haven't done so in aboout 10 years!
As I haven't cycled before, I am nowhere near being confident enough to cycle on roads and the thought terrifies me! I would like to get into touring when I can, so have been looking at Cycling courses that I can do to be confident enough to ride on roads. I have seen the Bikeability courses, however I'm not sure if they would be the best option for me!

Has anyone got any info regarding the best courses to look at? Or would it be best to contact individual cycling trainers to discuss with them?

Thanks in advance

Where are you? many council offer (or at least used to offer) cycling courses.

Do you have any friends who are experienced cyvlist's? Just tag along with them for a few rides. Don't worry they'll want to go furtger/faster, most cyclists would be happy to get you into it at your pace.

Thank you all! Have reserved the book at the library so I'll pick it up later this week.

I'm afraid I don't have anyone I can go out cycling with just yet. Hopefully I'll get myself booked onto a course, then when I'm confident enough, I'll join a group

Really looking forward to getting started!

Cool. Just enjoy it. Go at your pace and you'll be fine. Cyclecraft really is excellent and tells you pretty much everything you'll need to know.

Are there any off road or traffic free routes you could try first? Check out sustrans.
Start off gently and go from there.

There is the cycle path running along the a27 which would be quite good I think! It's very flat, straight and no cars so I'll dig my bike out over the next week or so!

Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
I'm sure I've read bad things about the A27 cycleway. I think it might have large cracks and other surface problems on it. If so, it's rideable but keep your eyes open because it's not as safe as it should be.
