Topeak QR beam rack on a narrow seat post?

A few years ago I bought one of these:

Just wondering if there's a way to bodge it to fit onto a roady seat post? I thought about using some old inner tube to wrap around the seat post, but wondering if there's a better way, or is it consigned to MTB seat posts only?

Note - When I bought this, it didn't come with shims.

I have the same, but it came with the shims, which are made of rubber. Bit like an inner tube wrapped around the seatpost, so I would imagine that would work just fine. I would not use it on a carbon seatpost though..

I used a strip off an old rubber car mat to do exactly what the OP suggests.Works fine.
