Topeak defender fx

Purchased a defender fx front mudguard but can't figure out how it fits to the fork,it looks easy on the provided diagram but is beyond me!! Advice please

unclip the mudguard blades from the bracket by pushing the button and sliding them off. then push the plastic peg in the middle of the bracket into the hole at the bottom of the steerer tube (the hole in the bikes frame at the top of the fork legs). tighten the allen bolt underneath the mudguard middle bracket until its tight. if you have a very wide steerer tube you may need to make the peg on the mudguard bracket a bit fatter by wrapping something around it. i used a strip of thin rubber i found somewhere.

That sounds like what i am doing but the allen bolt isn't tightening,just spinning.Thanks

keep going, it takes quite a long time to tighten up. if it doesnt tighten at all, like i said you may have a very wide steerer tube, or the little nut at the top of the allen bolt is not sitting in the nut shaped recess properly. try it with the bracket outside the bike frame. as you tighten the allen bolt, the nut on the top should pull the two plastic blocks together and spread them wider.
